San Diego – Summer Superba
Advertorial Design | PHOENIX Magazine
The Brief:
Design a 10-page travel-themed editorial section, including client advertisements, that captures the vibrant feel of San Diego and entices readers to plan a trip.
My Role:
Lead designer responsible for concept development, layout execution, and integrating client ads seamlessly within the editorial.
My Process:
Researched classic California tourism visuals, beach culture, and vintage typography for tone and mood.
Developed a bold, full-page opener using a retro-inspired headline font and a vibrant palette drawn from surf, sand, and sun.
Selected large, impactful photography to anchor each layout and drive visual storytelling.
Designed a flexible grid system to accommodate both editorial content and sponsored ad placements.
Balanced consistency and energy through careful use of typography, color, and negative space.
Design Strengths in Action:
This project demonstrates my ability to lead visual direction within a multi-page format, work across editorial and advertising needs, and maintain brand identity.
